Mary Maxon
Senior Warden

John Mathieu
Junior Warden, Technology & Building Operations
John and Jamie moved to Vancouver from Idaho in the 1977 and joined St. Luke’s with their two children in the early 80’s. John has a degree in Electrical Engineering and his first involvement with Thursday Crew was helping estimate the lighting needed for the new sanctuary pendant light fixtures. Since then, he’s been involved in replacing all the bulbs in those fixtures with LEDs as well as almost every other light bulb on the campus. He also dabbles in the church computer and video systems, plumbing, carpentry, and whatever breaks. This is John’s fourth tour of duty on the Vestry, having previously served with Fr. Allen, Fr. Case and Fr. Reyes. His biggest honor was making the phone call to ask Fr. Reyes to come to St. Luke’s and help us heal. John’s favorite hymnal phrase is, “Ponder anew, what the Almighty can do!”

I’ve been an Episcopalian since I was eight years old. My family was very active at All Saints’ in Hillsboro, Oregon. I have two sons and a daughter. When I married my second husband, Bill, in 1975, he had been raised Lutheran, so I was Episcopalian/Lutheran for 40 years. After he died in 2014, I felt a need to return to my roots. I attended a Christmas bazaar at St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas and met Jamie Mathieu. She took me on a tour and I fell in love. I feel at home here.
Over the year’s, I’ve helped with outreach, belong to the Altar Guild, participate in Book Club, Bible Study, Women’s Spirituality and Forward Journey. I love that we accept everyone and have women priests and eucharistic ministers, that we have a thriving Spanish service, that we shelter women downstairs, and we allow groups to hold meetings here.
I envision St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas to be a growing church with many young families.

I spent the last 23 years of my working career at St. Vincent Hospital with the last 13 years in obstetrics. I have two grown children and three grandchildren.
